Information for new and prospective new members
The club executive and committee are delighted to welcome you to The Mansfield & District Pony Club Inc.
Please take time to read this booklet. It is designed to help you understand how the club operates; explain the benefits of membership and to help you to enjoy your new club.
The club is entirely self-supporting, and so it is essential that members and parents assist in the maintenance of the club grounds & facilities by participating in working bees, helping out at rallies, in the canteen and with fundraising activities so that the running of the club is shared fairly across the membership. If you have any suggestions which you believe will improve our Club please contact a committee member. The names and phone numbers of the committee appear in our monthly newsletter and are listed on the Contents Page of this website. We hope that you will enjoy and participate in the events and activities organised by the Club.
Annual General Meetings are Held in Febuary each year and the club always appreciates and invites new committee members to come along and join the committee. Rally Days:
A Rally is the back bone of the Pony club. A Working Rally is a rally to which all financial members are eligible to attend and where coaching from the Pony Club Australia of Syllabus of Instruction is given – e.g. flatwork, horsemastership, general knowledge and active riding.
When:
Our club holds working rallies from February to December on the first Sunday of every month unless otherwise advised via the Newsletter and website.
What Time:
The day begins at 10.00 am sharp during winter and members should arrive at the grounds at least 30 – 45 minutes before the first lesson. (Except for the Summer rallies, where we are currently running an earlier start time being 8.45am in order to beat the heat.)
What to do on Arrival:
When you arrive at the Club and have settled your pony/horse, tied them to the float, ensure that they have clean water.
Report in:
All riders need to come to the Shed near the Dog Yard and report into the card secretary. This is to notify them of your attendance at the rally and have your card completed. Your instructor will also tick you off on your horse at gear check and this information will also be used to complete your PCAV Attendance Card.
All riders must always have a responsible parent/guardian on grounds for the whole day. If for some reason this person has to leave the grounds, they must see the Secretary.
Because of our insurance this must be strictly adhered to and unfortunately A RIDER WITHOUT A PARENT/GUARDIAN WILL REMAIN UNMOUNTED.
Saddle Up:
Then saddle up and report for the Jock Grey points located on the terrace at the top end of the grounds.
(See Flyer in booklet)
After this move off to your colour group to receive a gear check by your instructor. Within half an hour you should be moving off to your activity with your instructor.

This card is a bonfire membership and insurance indemnity. Your card must always contain your current address, age, horse, rallies attended and if applicable, the grading of horse for competition. The cards must be presented at all official Pony Club competitions.
The cards are kept at the Secretaries office during all rallies. The card secretary is responsible for entering, attendances for both horse & rider.
Cards are kept by the Card Secretary but you are most welcome to retain your own card as you will need to present it if you compete at an offical Pony Club Competition but you must remember to present it at a rally to have your attendance marked off.
Please make sure you collect your card from the Card Secretary before you go to any competitions.
The Pony Club year at Mansfield consists of a minimum of 11 Rallies, of which members must attend a minimum of 5 in any 12 month span to be a “qualified” Pony Club member. Riders 17 and over need only to attend 2 per year. To be graded, or eligible to compete in PC events on their horse, they must have attended 2 Rallies in the previous 12 months on that horse. Their first grading can only occur after their first two rallies (on the same horse).
A general Rule of Thumb is that we hold our Rallies on “the first Sunday of the month”. However, Mansfield’s local community events and Zone or State events can influence this rule of thumb. We are beholden to the Agricultural and Pastoral Society of Mansfield for the generous use of their grounds and facilities, and for allowing us to build our Cross Country course on their land.
