FIRST AID COURSE
Congratulations to our newest and re-newing First Aiders, here they are having some fun practicing their bandaging technique - they are pretty good! On a serious note, well done to the Committee for recognizing the need for more First Aiders around the ground at Pony Club - the more people that have the knowledge, the safer our kids are. The cost of completing the course was subsidized by Mansfield Pony Club and was offered to all families and will be offered again before the end of the year. If you are at all interested (even if it makes you nervous) please have a chat with Peta Middleton and get your name on the list. You never know when you might need it...
STATE HORSE TRIALS
Well done to Jacinda Dixon-Reilly who competed at the State Horse Trials on the weekend. She and her very clever mare Miss Freebie did a fabulous job. After a nice dressage test they were positioned out of the top ten but then a beautiful clear cross country round on a challenging course that caused many stops she shuffled up the leader board to 6th. The last phase being Showjumping saw Jace and Freebie drop two rails on a course that had very few clear rounds and they ended up 5th! Miss Freebie also won the Best Performed Retired Racehorse award bringing home a beautiful rug. Well done Jace and Miss Freebie, what a fantastic achievement!
Also, congratulations to our past Mansfield Pony Club member Beth Collins who won the event and well done to all the other North Eastern Zone members who made it to State and were competing on the weekend.

Well done to all the riders who got out of bed early on Sunday for our March Rally. The early start was designed to beat the heat..... Well, we tried!!! Despite the Extreme Heat, we had a great number of participants in this rally which saw some beautiful dressage on the Sand Arena, some thrills (and spills!) Cross Country, some Super Fast Games Practice, some gorgeous Bareback Riding and some excellent jumping practice on the Terrace.
After a relaxing lunch break all riders sat down to a session in the Pavillion on Certificate Work. Well done to you all for carefully listening and contributing to this session. We have a great bunch of Certificate candidates. There are some photo's below of some of the kids enjoying this session.

The biggest congratulations must go to Nichola Payne who won in Section 2B. This is Nicholas first season in Grade 2 and her and her beautiful pony Langtree Zandora are a fantastic combination.
Sophie Fox also did very well coming 8th

April Rally - Campdraft School
Tuesday the 8th April turned out to be a stunning day - perfect for our Campdraft School. We were very lucky to have Steve Arbuthnot, Paul Sheppard, Pat McCormack and Kelly Lovick come and give our members a fantastic insight into how to compete in a campdraft. The campdraft was set up from the Mansfield Campdraft held the week before and we even got to use REAL COWS!! Steve and Paul gave us all a talk on the general idea of campdrafting and then the whole group went off to the Cross Country Course to bring in the beasts, which looked like great fun - especially for Annabelle riding Jerry cowgirl style complete with the biggest bucks we have ever seen!! Once the cows were in, they split into 3 separate groups; one group chasing Steve on his horse around the course, the next group chasing Paul around learning how to move a beast around and the third group working with a real cow in the camp! Everyone looked like they were having a ball, the ponies were all looking very happy about a change of scenery, but all nice and tired at the end of it all. Huge thanks to Steve, Paul, Pat and Kelly for your expert help and to Bill Bryce and Paul Sheppard for the use of the REAL COWS!! Also a huge thanks to Glenn Fox for organizing the rally!
GOOD LUCK TO OUR STATE GAMES TEAM
AAAll the very best to our wonderful games team competing at State in Bacchus Marsh on the 15th June

Megan Jones, Amanda Ross & Kim Hewlitt Eventing Clinic
Wow, what a fantastic clinic we had! Due to ridiculously hot weather, the start times for the clinic were bought forward for a sparkly 6am start both mornings, which turned out to be a fabulous idea as conditions were perfect at that time of the day. Paricipants and spectators alike were treated to an amazing two days of tuition from these top instructors and many were able to attend a lovely dinner and thoroughly entertaining talk by Megan Jones and Amanda Ross held at the Mansfield Produce Store on the Monday night. We were given a bit of a "back stage peak" into the lives of olympians, their olympic horses and the teams that surround them - amazing! We also saw and learnt that mistakes and bad luck can happen even to the best of them and the answer is to pick yourself up and just keep focussed on your goal. Many, many thanks go to Fiona for all her hard work to make this clinic happen - yet again - and her offsider, Fenella who also worked extremely hard to make sure everything was right for the two day clinic. Many thanks also to the working bee parents and First-Aiders who helped out and most importantly, our amazing instructors for the two days, Megan, Amanda and Kim. THANK YOU!
Check out some of the action below, I am sure there are more photos to come, but here is a start. Thanks to those parents both inside and outside of our club who have sent in these wonderful pictures. If you have some photos to add, send them through to me and I will make sure they go in.

2011 State Horse Trials Championships at Heytsebury
Mansfield Pony Club was fortunate to field a team in the 2011 State Horse Trials Championships. Our team was Maddy Kyritsis on Special Package in Grade 1 and in Grade 2 Nikki Grey on Smarty Class, Sophie Fox on Here's To Us and Ange Robinson on Village Encore. On Saturday Maddy completed a lovely dressage test and our grade 2 riders did both their dressage and showjumping with Sophie in 6th place after the dressage in 2B, Nikki in 2A and Ange in 2C further down the field. The all did great showjumping rounds with Nikki's horse unfortunately clipping a rail.
Sunday saw heavy rain for the cross country phase and in really slippery conditions Maddy's horse was not able to complete the course. Nikki, Sophie and Ange all did a fantastic job with clear rounds and just a few time penalties which showed safe riding in the conditions.
Sophie place 5th which was a super effort in her first State Championship and at just 12 years of age the one of the youngest riders there. Ange moved up to 10th place in her class and Nikki 11th which gave our team 7th placing overall. Fantastic effort girls!

Grade 5: 1st April Lachal, 3rd Millie Ritchie, 4th Annabelle Fox, great efforts by Amy Dixon-Reilly with just one stop XC, Jacinda Dixon-Reilly who got all the way to the second last jump which was a spooky bridge and Sooty wasn't going near it, Lauren Hutchinson who rode the dressage and SJ with a broken arm (we didn't know it was broken until the Monday) and decided it was a bit too sore to do the XC. Lauren's new nickname is Gill (aka Gillian Rolton - google her if you don't know who she is).
Grade 4: Lauren Farrell was 1st after the dressage with just one stop XC, Beth Collins who is going fantastic on her new horse, Foley Lachal riding Dancer getting some great experience in their first HT together, Charlotte Wilson who it was great to see back on Lad, Kaitlin Stewart and Claire Debney having a nice day out.

Ungraded: 2nd Alec Ritchie on Commy who can't wait to turn 8 and start his HT career.
